Repaying Evil With Good

Oh so much to gain from 1 Samuel 24!

We know the story… Saul has been in pursuit of David, for his life. David has the opportunity to do whatever he wants to Saul. He cuts off his clothes, and feels awful. (Another example of how he is a man after God’s own heart – he means no one evil.)

Saul finally understands this as well, why David is chosen, and WILL be king. David could have repaid evil for evil. He could have ended Saul’s life. Instead, he repaid evil with good. David respected and honored that Saul was anointed of God, even if God’s Spirit was no longer with Saul.

I have made decisions in my life, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, that made no human sense.

Repaying evil with good, honestly, makes no sense. When people revile you, persecute you, insult you, abuse you, falsely accuse you, make an attempt on your life – it honestly makes no human sense to repay them with love, mercy, kindness, grace, and love.

But when God says so…

And you do so. Willingly. The outcome may not be realized immediately here on earth. But I tell you, heaven knows. It is realized in heavenly courts.

We as the disciples of Jesus Christ must learn to repay evil with good. We are in this world, but not of it. We don’t get our “lick back”.  Instead, we turn the other cheek. We walk the extra mile. We forgive the 70×7.
