I was sitting on the porch the other morning, writing in my prayer journal, and God spoke to me. “Why go back to Egypt?”
The children of Israel kindled God’s anger again and again because they constantly longed to return to the very place, the very situation that they cried out for 400 years to be delivered from.
God delivered them with such a mighty hand that all nations, for all time were able to see and know that it could have only been the One True Living God that delivered Israel from the oppression of the Egyptians. All the nations understood this and feared God, except Israel. God’s very own, chosen people.
Sometimes, we become like this. We pray for freedom, deliverance. Then, God swoops in and saves us with His mighty hand, in such a way, that it is undeniable that it is God. Yet, we constantly look back. We long for our Egypt.
What will it take?
When will we see?
How will we finally discern?
It is not God’s will that we should perish.
It is not His desire that we should be given over to the evil imaginations of our wicked hearts.
But, we must make a choice.
There are those who were delivered from Egypt who never made it into the Promised Land.
Will we?
Life gets difficult. It may be down right challenging right now. But, we can look back and see how God has saved and delivered us time and time again. We can see how He has carried us. We can see how His mercies are new every morning.
He is faithful.
