Forgiveness

Y’all I’m going to be real. I have been struggling with forgiveness.

I know that it is a walk. It’s not a “one and done.”

I remember hearing, repeatedly, “When you love, you give.”

It took me a long time to understand the part of that giving is forgiveness. We give – forgiveness – over and over and over. We give it when it hurts. We give it when the other party ISN’T apologetic. We forgive the apologies that never come. We forgive the hurts that STILL hurt.

We forgive. And we forgive again. And we keep forgiving.

Forgiveness isn’t for them. It’s for us.

Just as Jesus hung on the cross and said, “Father, forgive them (him, her, Jessy, _____,) they know not what they do…” And we were forgiven in that moment.

We forgive those who harmed us with and without cause.

I have struggled to forgive those who harmed me without cause. Those who harmed me while saying, “I love you.” Those who harmed me while calling me “friend.”

While it may be difficult to forgive, it’s not impossible. And it’s necessary.

I ask God daily for help.
I’ve been here before.
I know that He comes through.
I know that He’s faithful.

I ask for prayers for strength and perseverance as I weather this storm.

Jessy, this is a tough one, I’ve heard people say you just need to forgive and move on, but some things hurt deeper than others. Example if someone hurts your child physically compared to someone trashing your name. How does one forgive sincerely the same way in both circumstances. Forgiveness in my opinion can be in levels and it will takes even the strongest believer some time to fully get there or better yet never make it. Jesus told Peter after Peter asked the question Lord how many times should we forgive and Jesus said 7 times 70. The question I leave with is how many times has God forgiven us?

Great analysis. And that’s something I am constantly reminded of myself. I am not worthy of Jesus’ forgiveness, yet He does – again and again. I learned that forgiveness is a walk – like our walk with Christ. Some days are better than others! But we don’t stop. I forgive because I’ve been forgiven and I want to be forgiven. Some offenses are harder to forgive. My prayer has been: “Father, forgive me and teach me how to love and forgive.”
As always, thank you for taking the time to respond!
