Have you ever been in that place where you feel like you’re not quite where you used to be in your relationship with Jesus Christ. You wouldn’t necessarily classify it as “backslidden” per se (although, technically it is). Perhaps, lukewarm is a more accurate description?
And, it’s difficult to be honest with ourselves when we are at this point, if we even notice it at all.
You know the place: you no longer wake up and pray in the midnight hour, your prayers may be rushed, empty – “God, I’ll find you when I need you again…” You may not fast or read the Bible anymore – “tomorrow, next week,” we tell ourselves, but we live in the present so, tomorrow never seems to get here.
I was in my prayer time, last week, and felt so strong that it is well beyond the time for me to, “strengthen what remains…”
I went to the Bible. I knew it was in there somewhere.
Jesus was speaking to the church of Sardis. The Dead Church.
They weren’t completely dead. There was still some life in them. And if they didn’t want to lose what little life they had left, it was time to put in some work. With the imminent Second Coming of Jesus Christ – not a possibility, but a promise. The Dead Church, IF they wanted to be prepared, had work to do, else they would be completely caught off guard.
There are many well meaning Christians today, who might be caught off guard. We’ve become lax. We stopped watching. We’ve been lulled into a slumber and are missing the signs of the perilous times in which we live.
I’m not putting a timeline on the return of Jesus Christ, truth is, it might not be in our lifetime. I don’t know.
What I do know is this, tomorrow, the next hour, minute, even second is promised to no one. We never know when our time is up. We have to live ready. We have to live each moment as if it’s our last.

Strengthen What Remains

I see you on another one this morning. How to even comment on this one. The thing I love about God is that he wants us to win.
Imagine if God gave us no instructions in life, what expectations could he have. He wants us to win because he provides his instructions for a expected end.
You are correct, sometimes we do get off course, our prayer life diminishes, our Bible time is suspect, & our closeness with God is almost nonexistent.
But Sardis, he rebuked them, but never gave up on them, so as it relates to us, there is still hope for us, until there isn’t.
I leave you with this, if we treat God half the way he treats us we would still be infinities away from catching up.

You said it, “He wants us to win.” I’m thankful. Even God’s rebukes are full of love, grace, and mercy. Not to cause harm, but to get us back on track. I always appreciate your thoughtful responses.
